Based on the sunny southern coast of Portugal, The Studio started soon after its founders moved to the Algarve in 2020. The area has been emerging as a leading hub of specialty coffee in recent years, and we are proud to be right here in the heart of it.

…and we are meticulous about our roasts.
Coffee is our passion and our craft, but community is what drives everything we do.
Our story begins with a single specialty coffee shop in Lagos, Portugal, opened with the goal of uniting the local community around our favourite thing: coffee.
That happened faster than we expected. Within months of opening our doors – in the middle of a lockdown! – we realised the amazing power that coffee.
Our first coffee shop is still open today, and still fosters that same sense of community. Whether it’s entrepreneurs taking business meetings over coffee, coaches holding caffeine-fuelled sessions or tourists taking part in one of our many coffee-related events, our brand grew around the sense of community that it created and it’s a value that will continue to run throughout everything we do.
The difference between today and the day that we opened is that we now roast 100% of the coffee we sell.
Our specialty coffee shops in Lagos & Luz
In 2021, we opened our first two specialty coffee shops in Lagos and Luz, just a few kilometres apart on the southern coast of Portugal.
Both shops stock our full range of coffee beans (while stocks last) and can be ground for your brewing method by our baristas if you don’t have a grinder at home.

Our Luz coffee shop is attached to our coffee roastery, which is housed in a separate building behind the main store.
If you’re a coffee enthusiast – or just curious about how your coffee is made – you can even visit our roastery and see it in action!
We also sell a wide selection of freshly baked cakes and treats, all of which are 100% plant-based and prepared on-site.

In our Lagos coffee shop, you can find all of our coffees and vegan cakes, as well as some additional sweet treats, craft beers, local wines, coffee-based cocktails and an all-day brunch menu.
Our Lagos shop is also where our journey began, so it’s a special place for us.
As well as helping with all your specialty coffee needs, we also have a co-working bar, regular community events and a selection of homeware, cosmetics and other beautiful products that are made by local artists and small businesses.

Our coffee roastery in Portugal
We didn’t set out with a plan to become coffee roastery. We started roasting on a small boca boca just for fun, with the plan to use it to educate others on the full coffee process.
However, when customers began raving about our roasts and asking to buy our beans, we gave ourselves permission to go big.
Just several months later, we found the perfect roasting spot in the small town of Praia da Luz. That spot is now our full-scale coffee roastery where all the magic happens, and is attached to our second coffee shop.
Specialty coffee in Portugal
While Portugal has a long-standing coffee culture – with many coffee recipes that are unique to the country – specialty coffee is still in its infancy here.
Until recently, specialty coffee was very much a luxury that could only be sought in Portugal’s biggest cities. Now, specialty coffee is becoming more readily available for every coffee drinker to enjoy.
It’s a journey that we are excited to be a part of.
More than anything, we love being able to share premium quality beans and drinks with everyone here in Portugal.
