Colombia - Villa Betulia Yirgacheffe Natural (Limited Edition)
This is a pretty special coffee from our friend Luis Anibal Calderon at Villa Betulia in the Huila province of Colombia.
Essentially this is a varietal of coffee bean brought in from Ethiopia. It's from the Yirgacheffe province, to be specific. This is a native Ethiopian varietal grown in Colombia.
The history of the coffee in itself makes it pretty special. However, the fact that it's also an absolutely delicious coffee takes it to the next level. Moreover, we only have a total of 20kg of this coffee on hand, so it's very limited edition.
Tasting Notes: Prune, Vanilla, Floral, Red Berries
Region - Huila, Colombia
Process - Natural
1500-1600 MASL
Cupping Score - 89
At our roastery, we've found that this coffee is extremely smooth, clean, and nice and sweet. It's not overpowering, but definitely hits the senses and is fairly complex. The most prevalant flavours are floral as well as a nice sweet prune note. There's also a rich vanilla and some baked red berries.
About the Coffee Origin
Luis Anibal Calderon is known for some of the more unique processing styles of specialty coffee. But this particular process is just a simple natural process.
The coffee was hand-harvested to ensure only the ripest cherries were chosen, then meticulously sorted to remove any imperfections. It was dried on raised beds under controlled conditions until reaching the perfect moisture level.
