Description

Unfortunately, this coffee is now sold out. If you enjoy Rwandan coffees, we recommend checking out our Burundi Gakenke.

In 2003, 28 farmers in Rwanda’s Muhororo region formed a co-op to boost their incomes and that of the region.

This group – composed of mostly women – was granted 30 hectares of land by the local authorities with the goal of growing high-end specialty coffee.

In 2012, they built their own mini washing station to process their own coffee as well.

In 2018, they brought on Tropic Coffee to help manage their operation.

In turn, the endeavour has proven profitable. Members have managed to help the local community as well by helping to pay for insurance, school fees, and more.

About this coffee

We love Rwandan coffee. It’s the sweet red fruits and syrupy nature of it that keeps us coming back.

This particular coffee from the western province of Rwanda is certified organic.

It’s handpicked by farmers and then brought to the washing station, where it is first floated to remove any beans that aren’t at peak ripeness.

As it’s a natural coffee, it’s then spread out on raised beds to dry naturally and is raked frequently so that it dries evenly. It takes around 30 days for the cherries to dry.

This particular coffee is a great summer coffee, and is especially strong as an iced pour-over! It’s full of wild strawberries, hints of black tea and lemon.

It’s packed with sweetness and gives a summer iced tea vibe.
