Description
This is one of our 2024 microlot coffees.
It was grown by a single farmer, Luis Anibal Calderon, at the Villa Betulia farm in Colombia’s Huila region.
Luis Anibal Calderon is a second-generation coffee farmer with more than 40 years of experience in his field of expertise.
In 2015, he decided to switch things up at the farm he owns, Villa Betulia.
Since then, he has specialised in growing exotic coffee varieties, including Red Gesha, Wush Wush and Pacamara.
This particular microlot coffee is an Ethiopian Heirloom varietal. It is native to Ethiopia, but arrived in the Huila region of Colombia many years ago.
It was Luis Anibal Calderon who was able to cultivate the varietal in Huila and who continues to grow impressive Ethiopian Heirloom coffee cherries today.
Luis Anibal Calderon has become known for his high-quality, exotic coffees, and this one is no different.
In order to ensure only the ripest cherries were used, this microlot coffee was handpicked with meticulous care.
Once harvested, the ripe cherries were fermented in an anaerobic (i.e. free of oxygen) environment for a total of 40 hours.
The fermented cherries were then dried in the sun until they reached the desired moisture content level.
The result is a flavourful coffee with sweet and spicy notes.
You may be able to taste dried fruits, apple, dark chocolate and baking spices when this unique coffee is brewed.
