Description
Unfortunately, this coffee is now sold out. If you enjoy Indonesian coffee, we recommend checking out our Trenggiling coffee.
Mount Kerinci is one of the many active volcanos on the island of Sumatra.
The activeness of the volcano has led to some incredibly fertile soils, perfect for coffee growing.
The Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative is home to 320 members who live and work at the base of the volcano.
All of them are small-hold farmers, most with farm sizes between 0.5 and 2 hectares.
This is a cooperative on the move… It actually has its own processing facilities, roastery, and cupping lab. Impressive since they only started in 2017!
About this coffee
Indonesian coffee can be divisive. Some people love it, others don’t love it so much.
But this particular coffee is one we think everyone can love.
Traditionally, Indonesian coffees are wet-hulled, which can lead to some “earthy” flavours. However, this is a fully washed coffee and almost feels more like an African coffee.
It’s like cherry lemonade, with lots of brown sugar and hints of orange peel. It leaves an apple-y aftertaste.
This coffee is pulped at the washing station and then left to ferment overnight in buckets. The next day it’s washed and agitated to remove the mucilage.
It’s then dried on patios and transferred to raised beds to dry.
Once dry, the coffee is milled and sorted by hand to ensure the highest quality.
For every bag of this green coffee we purchased, 1 avocado tree was also planted to help diversify the income of member farmers!
