Description
Unfortunately, this coffee is now sold out. If you enjoy Costa Rican coffees, we recommend checking out our very special Fátima Anaerobic.
Costa Rica is one of the most advanced coffee producing countries in Central America.
The country has also become a world leader in traceability and sustainability in coffee production. Ninety percent of the country’s 50,000 farmers are smallholders, and today, many deliver their cherries to boutique micro-mills that often process cherries according to producer specs to retain single-lot or single-farm qualities.
This coffee is special; in both its flavour and production. The Hacienda Sonora is grown on a 100 hectares of land operated by one single land owner. The farm is sustainably run as well! Beyond the fact that its planted in a biodiverse fashion – blended within a number of other crops – all the electricity used on the farm is generated on the land using renewable means.
We offer this bean only as a light roast, as it is a premium coffee. You can expect a fun coffee with lots of lemon notes accompanied by cinnamon, brown sugar, and apple.
About this coffee
Hacienda Sonora sits at the foot of the Poas Volcano. The farm operates on 100% renewable energy generated by a hydroelectric generator. The energy fuels the wet and dry mills, and provides free electricity for everyone living and working on the farm.
The farm covers approximately 100 hectares. Of those, 45 hectares are devoted to shaded coffee. Coffee plants are surrounded by exotic trees and other native vegetation. The remaining land has wild forest reserve and sugar cane.
Hacienda Sonora has its own micro-mill, which enables the farm to create unique micro lots.
This particular micro lot is naturally processed. In fact, all coffees at Hacienda Sonora are either honey or natural processed to reduce wastewater and further protect the environment.
